When I realised only two really complied with the prompt and yet all four hung together I’ve posted the lot here in my LJ as I don’t want to annoy the mods by posting gratuitous drabbles. The first and fourth are also posted to OoS iteself
This is a pre-prequel (sort of, if the term exists!) to my two Giles/Xander pieces
here and
here The ‘verse has no title so far as I a) suck at titles and B) want to see how it develops first…

Make up was laughably easy to shoplift, especially dressed as a young gentleman. Actually it was the easiest way, easier by far than attempting to actually buy it from a suddenly off-hand cashier. Food, cigarettes, booze – not all
had to be paid for, but as both were unwilling to inhabit a squat, rent was unavoidable.
So they did various shifts at a bar/club in Soho. No lap-dancing or private dances but plenty patrons willing to slip the odd fiver into an alluring young man’s pocket - or if on stage at the time into a well-worn but polished Dr Marten’s.

The necessity of remaining off of watcher, and therefore parental, radar also wasn’t as difficult as he had initially feared. Certain books in certain shops mysteriously vanished, as Rupert could hardly be seen in such places for fear of recognition it suited him to have a ready accomplice in these tasks. They learned and experimented, in more ways than one, apart initially and then together.
The added edge from the realisation that this was as total a rejection of his ‘appointed path’ – the way he was expected to be – as possible, was sweet. Freedom had never seemed so utterly
free.

Rupert would pinpoint, from memory or otherwise, the location of the tomes (none particularly valuable or rare, unfortunately these were apt to be heavily warded), as a ‘casual browser Ethan could ‘tag’ each with a reagent/foci to allow it’s transportation later. It was carefully planned – all ‘lifts’ made the same night - the magical buzz such sustained casting caused them both was bloody strong and quite unexpected.
Ethan laughed long and hard at the idea of the consternation and ‘stir’ they must’ve caused. It took two rather energetic blow-jobs to convince him NOT to go view it from close up.

“Oh grow a pair why don’t you Ripper?” The condescending sneer in Ethan’s voice was almost more than he could stand. “You were the one who ix-nay’ed stealing the frigging book.”
“Because of the bloody wards Ethan” Ripper had had enough of
this argument. Besides that certainly wasn’t the point in question here. “That still doesn’t excuse you though – you know damned well you should have at least discussed this before bending over for any guy with cash to spend! Damnit Ethan – to just walk in on that…”
“There must be
some way I can make it up to you?”
